If you are one year out from retirement and you don't know your spending capacity, you likely aren't prepared for retirement.

"This isn't some fluffy bullshit about how you feel about yourself..."<br><br>This is the first time I've heard Eric use "language," so when it happens, it probably means something profound is forthcoming. As it turns out, this video does not disappoint. (None of his do.)

Really good info, once you got into it. Maybe consider that if someone clicks on a video for what to do 5 years before retirement that they don’t need 10 minutes of analogies convincing them it’s important to start 5 years out? We wouldn’t be here if we weren’t ready to plan the roadtrip to the moon already, so thanks for the prioritization of when to figure specific things out.

It’s easy to get lost in the weeds at each stage in the process. This overall 5 year approach is extremely useful and will definitely help generate better questions for my planner. Many thanks Eric!

A couple of items that I would recommend adding in the 5 year plan:<br>- If you don't have a Roth account (IRA or 401k) then start it now. There are some 5-year eligibility rules around Roth and starting it 5 years prior to retiring will help you mitigate some or all of them.<br>- Start planning your post-retirement activities and spend some time testing them out (e.g. new hobbies, volunteering etc.). Maybe, you will like them, maybe you won't, but these years should be used to 'dip the toe' into different activities that will make your retirement fulfiling.

I work for 50 years waiting for my retirement. A co-worker turn to me and asked how I was planning. I said from high school dropout YouTuber with no prospects and no hope and he's going to teach me finance😂. The guy says me too and we both laugh our asses off.😂

Thank you for this timely video. <br>Definitely a lot to take in, especially since I plan to retire on March 2027 at age 57. <br>I've worked on most of what you mentioned on this video, but definitely need to update my Estate planning, it's been over 10 years since I've looked at it.<br>Luckily company offers medical coverage when I retire, still plan on paying around $1200 month (wife of 33 years (of marriage) and 16 year old high schooler, still at home; they just won't leave) until Medicare kicks in. <br>Since I am within the, "one year before retirement", I have to absolutely start reeling everything in. <br>Hopefully after I take care all the numbers part, I can work on the "Fluffy bulls--t" part. Ha-ha, Love it!!!!
