If you could capture some rain events on these videos, they would be much more satisfying.

The thought of someone worrying about downstream areas 'losing' water seems incredibly naive and short-sighted, particularly in light of the extreme flash flooding which Texas has endured in recent years. I would say that your work - and work like it - which focuses on infiltration in upstream areas, is incredibly important. Demonstrating that water CAN be managed and slowed in upland areas, where previously it had barrelled through, offers so much hope. Not just to restore degraded landscapes, but because, applied at scale, it could help to take the edge off the flooding downstream in high-rainfall events. Sure, it can't and won't stop them outright, but every inch counts. The more water and sediment that can be slowed, the better for everyone, and everything.

If downstream neighbours get jealous at all, perhaps they ought to start doing the same!

I guess the key word in the title is "COULD" hold water...

After 32 minutes, I saw one puddle.

Good to see you evaluating results from your previous work and then building up where you need to, allowing the water to pool where it needs to and slowing the downpours so they benefit the land instead of taking all the topsoil off.

Great video again, good information for those who listen, the aquifer is crucial to Texas's future, water is a keystone foundation piece to civilization.

I live in Texas, born and raised in, this makes me have a small smile on my face. Wherever we were living growing up, if an old man needed help our daddy would send us to help. There were many low areas that went in to a dry creek that we half fill in with rocks to stop erosion. There was no talk about how or where the rocks laid. Just throw large rock in the bottom smaller around them. If he had a gully that needed to be filled, rocks were thrown in, half full or more, time did the rest. No levels, no pony tail, no bull sh!+. Did other chores in the morning and filling in the afternoon when it was hot, there was general some shade there. We used a pickup truck bed trailer, gloves( if we had some).

I think it was an Intermountain West Joint Venture presentation where they have studies showing that these methods do not significantly impact downstream water levels. Besides, the idea that you would be stealing water from downstream seems to be based on the assumption that water that falls in one place belongs somewhere else. If anything, it belongs where it falls first. People don't understand that this work is restoring the water cycle and stream conditions that existed before grazing, logging, and trapping. Narrow incised creek beds that never leave their channel are not natural, wide anastomosing streams that change season after season are.

"What about downstream? Aren't you stealing the water?"
Bruh. The state has a massive water shortage. If it were up to me - We'd be slowing down and redirecting the water from the rivers, and effluent streams so much that the river deltas at the ocean are a small trickle except on the heaviest of rains. Eventually the ground will have absorbed so much water that it can't hold on to any more and the plants can't transpire enough away that it HAS to go through the waterways back to the ocean. But by then the whole state would look like a freaking rainforest. Let's make it happen.
