  Definitely go back and make a weekend of it. So many amazing things to do there and the night life is reasonable too. The war memorial and cockington green were a couple of my favourite attractions.

  Better than the good old days of 1961 when the train took about 10 hours. Family arrived in Canberra from UK expecting a capital like London and a Waterloo Station. Instead, a rickety shed on THE platfrom and about 9,000 people - only in the inner valley and no lake.. Gange of trains at Gouburn to the spur line. ANd another change at Queabeyan for the steam loco No. 1210 to do the final pull in the &quot;national capital&quot; .... more &nbsp;like a &quot;notional capital&apos;! Train took so long that we thought we were in the &quot;dead centre of Australia&quot; - and we were!<br>Some now prefer the bus ... but it is cramped seating, lack of leg room, and lack of mobility.

  Canberra buses are actually pretty good on weekdays, much better than most Australian cities of similar size, but there are definitely problems. The buses are made for local workers and students, not for visitors, so they don&apos;t run to tourist spots and they don&apos;t run very often at night or weekends. Still miles better than Newcastle buses post-privatisation.

  Tap with a mastercard, which takes all the hassle away. 2-3 nights is ideal depending on what time of day you arrive and depart

  I think we spend 4 days in Canberra a couple of years ago and we were busy all the time.

  The lunch on the train is very good!!! Reasonably priced too. I always get hot lunch. The coffee is not so great tho.

  I&apos;ve done the trip in reverse. In an ideal world this trip should be well under 3 hours, thats without investing in fast rail and just improving the current rail. &nbsp;The train would get far more use if the trip was under 3 hours each way.
