  Ecologist here, the story about the man who was the only survivor of the town that was hit by CO2 asphyxiation is a phenomenon unique to equatorial regions. Lakes across the world that are deep enough have a zone at the bottom that oxygen does not reach. In this zone because there is no oxygen for chemical processes other elements are used to be terminal electron acceptors producing gasses such as CO2. In lakes not in the equatorial this gas is released twice a year when the lake turns over as temperature changes cause water to sink and rise, but in the equatorial region lake turnover does not occur as the temperature is similar all year round. This means that the gas just builds in the bottom waters of the lake until physically disturbed, frequently by something large falling into the lake. There are multiple instances of this happening in Africa and as such there are multiple lakes that humans turnover multiple times a year to keep this build up from happening.

  My ex&apos;s daughter was in second grade and was struggling to learn to read. Bought her hooked on phonics, after three months of working with her she was a reading machine, her teachers were impressed and asked what we did and were genuinely surprised when they found out I taught her phonics. Turns out she felt really motivated to learn once she knew some rules and could make informed guesses lol.

  I home schooled my son for for 2 years, taught him phonics, cursive, and how to read a clock. He&apos;s now top of his 3rd grade class in reading and writing. If the school won&apos;t we should.

  Bob asked for us to correct Mark, so I&apos;m going to hit em with the &quot;um akshually.&quot;<br>The exploding lake isn&apos;t caused by caves under the lake, it&apos;s CO2 IN the lake. The local volcanic activity causes CO2 to leak into the lake, but it&apos;s at such a slow minuscule rate that it dissolves into the water itself. Same as a carbonated drink. Then an earthquake or other geological disturbance will happen, shake the water, and shake the bubbles out of the water, causing a massive release of gas.<br>Fascinating stuff.

  The stuff with kids not learning is a much deeper issue with the American government and the funding for the public school system. As a teacher, I know for a fact there are few good teachers because of how poorly we are paid, and it just continues to get worse

  Busby did NOT die in that chair. That was his chair at his favorite pub which he killed a man over, and while he was being executed for being a piece of crap he said something along the lines of cursing any and everyone who ever sat in HIS chair. The chair still remains at the same pub hung up on a wall so no one else can ever sit in the chair

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FaYBaReV9Sw&amp;t=270">4:30</a> As a person with dyslexia, I can’t believe that’s intentionally the way reading is taught. One of the biggest challenges of dyslexia is exactly that it’s hard to clearly identify the structure and letters in words, which often forces us to guess what we’re reading. It blows my mind that the education system would rely on a method that basically reinforces that exact weakness which dyslexic people struggle with.
