We read the firsthand accounts of Hiroshima in school and it was literally what I imagined hell was like. It should be required reading for kids in every country.

The 2h video is absolutely worth a full watch through btw, set aside some time, it’s incredibly well researched.

Shaun made my favorite video ever on The Bell Curve (a book I read in college, and even as a conservative was shocked at how racist it was), and then he followed it up by making a possibly even better video on this topic! Really amazing work!

Just want to add that more then just steel has been changed by the nuclear bombs. Even carbon dating has been effected amongst other things.

I just wanna thank Hasan with this take. I also watched a documentary about the atomic bomb. One of the reasons why Kyoto was supposed to be bombed (before being denied by Stimson i think) was because the city was mostly made out of wood structures, and the military wanted to test the casualties resulting in the bombing. Japan was also trying to negotiate with america because they knew the Soviets were just around the corner, but america mostly ignored the terms, standing with the Potsdam Declaration.
As a Japanese person raised in midwestern Minnesota and getting education in Japan, it was pretty concerning that the stuff i saw here, and the stuff i learned in American Social Studies were totally different.
In America, the bomb was more positively taught, while in Japan, we learned what our grandparents went through, the concequences of the bombs, and why it should never be used ever. I really concerns me how i was taught that the bombs were a genuinely atrocious thing that occured was a positive, and i want to thank the azan community for opening up. Love y'all

The Japanese soldiers loyalty was crazy. In the 00s they found a Japanese soldier on a unpopulated island still thinking the war was going on. Dude refused to stand down until he hears from superiors. This was a thing the Japanese did, seeding islands with soldiers to fight Americans. There are some funny stories from islanders that had Japanese soldiers on their island.

It's not a Hasan video if every 10 minutes he tries to convince his chat that the guy they are watching is not a bad guy and that he represents every aspect

I went to the hiroshima museum in '24 and it was a very harrowing experience. Strongly recommend for all who visit japan

I realize my Christian private school was more progressive than other private Catholic/Christian schools. We werent really taught it was justified, instead we were more taught from the Japanese civilian's POV and that they already surrendered.

Idk how common this book is in other schools, but we read Sadako and the Thousand Paper Cranes, based on the story of Sadako Sasaki, who at 2, survived the initial Hiroshima blast but the radiation left her with leukemia. According to a Japanese legend, told to her by a friend, 1000 paper cranes could grant wishes but whether or not she exceeded that goal (the book says she folde 644, others say she exceeded it), she passed away October 25 1955
