You should come back to Mt. Sterling during Court Days! The city is FULL of vendors, good food and music for at least 3 days or more. I live in Lexington and love that I'm surrounded by so much history and beauty. Thanks for visiting our amazing state. ❤

Oh and those rock fences you saw...the ones in Paris, KY, leading into Lexington, have signs that tell when they were constructed.

I used to live in Pineville Ky. in Bell County. There are all kinds of interesting places in and near Pineville. Pineville is the home of the "Mountain Laurel Festival", Pine Mountain State Park and Chain Rock. The Rock sits above the city of Pineville and is chained with a 400 ton chain to the side of the mountain. At the chain site is a panoramic view of Pineville and the valley below. Pineville was once called "The Narrows" because the Cumberland River is at its narrowest at Pineville. The Narrows is where Dr. Thomas Walker led an expedition across Cumberland Gap years before Daniel Boone. Pineville is known as "The Gem City of the Cumberlands." Just south of Pineville is Cumberland Gap National Park on U.S, Rt. 25-E where you will go through a tunnel that travels under Cumberland Gap into Tennessee. North Of Pineville is the city of Manchester Ky. At the city park is a huge sandstone boulder that fell onto the highway after road crews worked on the highway. On that sandstone is carved ancient symbols and letters from different ancient languages. No one knows who carved the letters on the rock. They are on display at the Manchester City Park in Clay County.
