Silco Is Still Arcane's Best Character

I think you nailed summarizing Silco's character arc EXCEPT for one very important thing: During the tea party, Vi was absolutely not "winning Jinx over". She was unintentionally causing her to spiral into a psychotic episode. You really think Vi saying "picture Mylo, Claggor, Vander" causing Jinx to hallucinate the demons haunting her and making her feel small and helpless (which is reinforced by her literally being tiny in the shot) was her "winning Jinx over"? It was a testament to how deeply Vi misunderstands her sister and refuses to acknowledge the state that Episode 3's events have left Jinx in. So Silco's decision to point the gun at Vi wasn't a selfish act to get his daughter back. It was an attempt to get Vi to shut up and stop Jinx from spiraling. He was trying to save her. Because unlike Vi, Silco understands the condition she's in and accepts her regardless and wants to help her through her episodes, even if by misguided means.

The best description I heard of Silco was this:

A great character, but not a good person.
A loving father, but not a good one. Manipulative to everyone around him, whether he realises it or not.

Season 1: character driven plot
Season 2: plot driven characters

Even in season 2 where multiple characters were gutted in order to avoid dealing with the class issues. Silco remains flawless. I cherished every moment he was on screen.

One detail I really like about Silco is the eye injection thing. In episode 1, the very first thing we see Silco do is stab himself in the eye without so much as flinching. In our first scene with Silco in episode 4, Jinx does the injection for him, and he reacts very strongly. That comparison alone communicates how Silco has changed because of his relationship with Jinx. I was going to say that she made him weak, but I don't think that's right. I think it's more that Jinx is someone that Silco doesn't have to hide his weakness from. He absolutely felt the pain in episode 1, and now we know it must have taken an immense amount of willpower to maintain his composure. But with Jinx? She is the only person who can understand him, and he is the only person who can understand her. He can be completely open with her in a way he likely hasn't known since Vander, if ever.

Characters like Silco, Marcus or even regular Vander wouldn't and couldn't exist in Season 2. What made Season 1 so special was just how down to earth it was. It didn't try to tell some fantasy story set in a big universe, it told a story about how a corrupt society destroys the less fortunate, turning them into monsters and blinds the lucky ones with greed and naivety. Season 2 just feels like the League of Legends show people expected before being blown away by Season 1. Everyone is superpowered now, the whole Season ends with a massive comic book style final battle, etc. The drastic shift in priorities from characters to world building and lore can even be seen in the characters, who change because the lore needs them to rather than because it makes sense in the plot. Ekko doesn't create his device beause his character arc needs it, he does so because that's his ability in the game and the plot forces him to do so, Vander doesn't come back and become Warwick because the plot needs him to, he does so because Warwick is a champion and needs to be in the show, Mel doesn't become a mage becasue Season 1 implied she is one (it really didn't, her character had nothing to do with magic), she does because she's popular and they need to put her in the game. The differences in nuance between Season 1 and 2 are palpable.

I think Silco wanted Jink to heal and be stronger but didn't understand what she needed because of his own emotional scars.

I got to meet Jason Spisak at a convention almost two years ago. He's one of the nicest actors I've ever met and he absolutely loves his job. He was at his booth doing cool voices for his fans and having a blast. The guy is crazy talented.

His death allowed him to escape from the writing of Season 2 assassinating his character 💀

I think his character tied all of season 1 together. Having a central antagonist that ties almost all the story’s themes together was such a strong move. A lack of that in season 2 was very much obvious. While my favorite character is/was Vi (season 2 did her no favors) Silco is undoubtedly the best written character. Great vid
