I have had a 48 inch rough cut from this manufacturer for 10 years. It is an absolute beast and worth every penny. Other brands may be less expensive, but they’re also considerably less wear resistant. Also the people at Kuntz have been excellent in terms of customer support and parts over the years. I highly recommend this product.

Good video! I purchased one of these Kunz mowers (MR55KEI) 4 years ago to handle an overgrown 4 acre price of property. It has a fuel injected Kohler engine. Didn’t want to spend $30,000 on a tractor so this fit the bill nicely. I tow it behind an ATV and it works perfectly. Now that the property has been mowed these past few years, it’s just like a lawn. I drop the adjusters down and it does a fantastic job. Almost as good as a finish mower. I did modify the hitch. The clevis allowed it to slam around too much and actually graze the aluminum gear case on the ATV (it’s a Honda Foreman with solid rear axle). I cut the hoop off the tongue and bolted on a 2” ball hitch in its place. I don’t have any deep ditches or sudden steep transitions so the ball works great. I mow around 60 trees on that 4 acre piece as well. Once you get used to it you can whip it around pretty good. Nowhere near as maneuverable as a zero turn but it works fine with a little practice.

When I was a kid, before my dad bought a garden tractor, we would mow his 1 acre lot with an electric golfcart towing 3 gang (reel) mowers in a V pattern. It was quiet, efficient, fast, and required no gasoline. Only downside was the cart's limit was about that 1 acre on a charge.

I’ve had the Kunz 60” finish mowers in a three wide configuration for 6-7 years and I use it with my Toolcat and it’s been great. Kunz Engineering is such a great company you can order every single part on these things and you can modify the daylights out of them. I put a remote on it so I could stop the blades from in the cab in case I had to go out in the field to maneuver around things.

With three of them it’s hard to hear when one cuts out if I’m going too fast on heavier stuff so I put a siren on it that goes off if the motor cuts out or I run out of gas. I even bought more of the cross braces and put a skid steer plate on them and I can run them in front of the Toolcat (I put them on hydraulics so that I could scope them in for road travel and out for full 15’ wide cutting. I love them, they’re amazing and cut as nice as my zero turn. One of my fields is 8 acres and I can easily do it in about 40 minutes with nice clean cuts. Regrettably I have to sell them as I now need a lawn crew to do the work but they were perfect the whole time and never gave a lick of trouble.

Matt Kunz answers every email immediately, no matter how hare-brained my questions were. I cannot recommend these machines highly enough.

10 years ago I had a competitor’s pull type mower, a Swisher 60” finish cut. The deck was shallow and it didn’t cut well, especially taller thicker grass. The hitch system left a lot to be desired. I tried it on two different lawns, one with around 3/4 acre of it mostly open. I pulled it with a Toro 52” commercial ZTR and I didn’t really cut the mowing time because it was taking more time to turn around at the end of a pass. The other lawn had less open lawn and I tried using it in the lawn closer to the house with plenty of big trees and I didn’t cut my mowing time down. I found them to be big and clumsy to use. The only gain I would see is if you have lots of big trees to go around to cut under the branches, or if you have at least an acre with no obstructions to go around.

In the 90’s I was going to start a manufacturing business making my own. I had several designs for steering systems so it would more closely follow the cut/uncut line left by the tractor or ZTR pulling it. I never felt good enough to pursue the manufacturing business and was diagnosed with chronic Lyme disease in 2013.

Instead of pulling it with a vehicle, one could even simplify further by pulling the mower by hand. Wait, that's just a push mower going backwards. Revolutionary!

An electric linear actuator on the hitch to change the offset would really make trimming a lot easier. Like a hydro swing hay conditioner.

Now that you talk about the hitch there's probably away to make a u-joint somehow for the hitch to free move but be secure

Hey Tim I've notice using this mower With the gator you can put Weed wacker brush cutter Chainsaw To cut down trees over hanging limbs And big stumps that you trim around And fuel For these 3 pc of equipment And you don't have to walk back to a maintenance building To retrieve fuel when you're out Or have to swap handheld equipment out And you can even carry a rule of Trimmer line. I just thought You can even Carry a cooler for cold cut sandwiches In cold drinks for your lunch All in the same vehicle.

Tim, we took a rough cut mower and automated it so everything could be ran from a remote control. Nice when you want to engage mower or disengage mower, start and stop engine and raise and lower height all from the cab. Need to check my video out! 😊. I like the bigger motor on that one. I always thought mine was underpowered for a rough cut mower.
