Two quick corrections: at 25:50 yes there are 5 different groups but the three at the top and two at the bottom are on opposite sides. The other is that I meant to say OLIVER Cromwell, not his equally famous uncle Thomas Cromwell who was a chief minister for Henry VIII and beheaded in 1540.

Correction at 13:00. The population of the island of Ireland has not reached the level it had just before the famine. The population at the start of 1845 was around 8.5 million. Today the population of the island is around 7.2 million.

From someone who had my father murdered during the troubles, thank you for covering this subject. Hope you enjoy your time in Belfast, it's a beautiful place.

As someone from Northern Ireland with a Catholic background. I just want to say I really like your appreciate your mature reaction and commentary to this video.

Things are a lot better these days but it's still not perfect. A relative of mine was offered a job in Belfast but was pulled aside by the site manager and warned that the team was run by unionist paramilitary members who the company had little control over when it came to how they treated the workers in that area. Unsurprisingly he didn't take the job after that.

So, by and large, things have vastly improved but you still need to watch yourself in certain places around the country.

While in Dublin, please stay clear of Temple Bar (its a tourist trap area in the city centre. Ignore it!)

Fun fact (kinda), I live right around the corner from where Bloody Sunday happened. Grandpas brother was at the Bloody Sunday March, my grandmother had a colleague at her shirt factory who was one of the boys killed. My great grandfather was killed in the Troubles. Was a scary time. My mum always says she’s so grateful me and my brother never had to go through what she did growing up…regular bomb checks and army patrols who were very frosty with civilians.

The story of Irelands history is a clear indicator of just how awful the British empire could be during periods of its history.
