As long as the Emperor got his taxes, he didn&apos;t care how much you demanded from the people. You could demand an outrageous sum of money, and be backed by 2 Roman legionaries ready to take it, and it was all perfectly legal as long as Caesar got his cut.

  There is no doubt in my mind that John was giving Peter a little friendly jab across time there. A little inside joke between old friends, in what would turn out to be the most important set of books ever created. It is such a tongue in cheek, winking type line and I love it. Goes to show across thousands of years bros will be bros
