Vince was hitting the juice just as hard as his wrestlers back in the 80s

Rumour has it that Vince offered Gary Strydom a wrestling contract after the first WBF show...but before Gary could give him an answer, Vince took it back due to the federal government persuing him over suspected steroid distribution. You know that Vince would have made Gary the WWF Champion without hesitation! 😂

I bet a lot of wwf wrestlers who were pissed at the bodybuilders getting better benefits was one reason a lot of them went to wcw a few years later

I enjoyed watching WBF Bodystars. I thought that their guest appearances on WWF programming enhanced their parent company’s appeal. Unfortunately for Vince McMahon, there were only a few thousand people who shared my enthusiasm for his WBF.

Large reason why Vince's takeover of wrestlling was successfull is that when he started it, there was no biggest player in town, there was no giant to take down, like you said, it was a patchwork of small fiefdom territories.
But with both bodybuilding and football there was, IFBB and NFL, and Vince's takeover plans against them blew in his face. Of course there are other reasons too, but i think this is one of the more important ones.
Also it's incredible how Vince managed to make bodybuilding gayer than it already is with the gimmicks.

This was a major deal for a lot of us. This was my first exposure to bodybuilding and training in general. Certainly sad that politics and contracts robbed us of seeing the potential of some of the greats. I wonder how far some of the WBF guys could have gone if they were in the IFBB. The WBF and Flex Magazine Workout were major influences on all of the young crew in the 90’s.

Dorian would have been the Hulkster for WBF. I guess the moment when he said No was the moment of a stillbirth
