Fantastic! And It's true! The First tem minutes of a class are so important. You're giving their students the chance to talk about what's meaningful to them! Loved it!

How come this has not been watched more? This is an amazing video and interview. Thank you for sharing this video. I had the privilege of meeting Thornbury face-to-face a number of years ago. I decided to research "Dogme ELT" for my MA thesis. It was amazing and very insightful.

When I went to university as a working-class mature student, I was stunned to realise that because it was written in a book or newspaper didn't mean it was true or superior to my understanding. I've come a long way since my linguistic studies, but always trembling on this edge between imitation and creativity. That knowledge and practice is constructed through language is evident as a language teacher, and I have struggled to understand what the game is as a TEFL teacher, coming into insights like these in the academic field, but isolated in personal habits. I can't tell you how significant it is to be in on this dialogue, this social discourse, to see clearly and step up to what's real. I certainly see it as a social revolution starting at the coal face of what shimmers and shines between us as language. Thank you so much.

Thank you so much for sharing this wonderful exchange between you and Mr. Thornbury. It was highly insightful and engaging especially for those of us who work as English teachers and are constantly looking for ways to improve our work in the classroom.

This is probably one of my favorite interviews about ESL teaching that I have seen so far. I agree with Mr. Thornbury, there is an obsession with testing and performance. This factor leads students to be more performance oriented rather than mastery oriented where learners are motivated by the desire to improve a skill regardless of how others are performing. Ultimately, students need to use the language effectively Outside the classroom and that’s a whole other level. We should go towards a more holistic type of teaching rather than something very fragmented. Thanks again Christian for the awesome work you have been doing with your channel. I am preparing my DELTA using your videos.
