Metal Detecting Blackpool Central Pier…You Won’t Believe What I Found!

Same drill as before, the beach metal detecting continues! Now Chapter 5 of my mission to metal detect every beach along the Fylde Coast, it doesn't matter the weather, I want a new discovery, I’m now heading to the iconic Blackpool Central Pier to see what history and hidden treasures are waiting beneath the sand. Originally conceived after the success of Blackpool North Pier, the Blackpool South Jetty Company was formed in 1864. Construction began in 1867, with the pier designed by Lieutenant-Colonel John Isaac Mawson and built by Richard Laidlaw and Son of Glasgow. The pier officially opened on 30 May 1868, stretching an impressive 503 yards into the Irish Sea. But this time, I'm changing things up... Instead of using a traditional spade, I've brought along my CKG Sand Scoop, opening up a much larger area of beach and making those shallow-water targets far more accessible. Join me for a few days of beach metal detecting. Watch me sift through the sand to see what items I can uncover along the shoreline. This video documents a casual session of beach metal detecting, perfect for anyone curious about the reality of what lies beneath the sand. We explore the shoreline with a standard scoop, sifting through the layers to see what the tide has left behind. Whether you enjoy the hobby or just like watching the process, this is a straightforward look at the day's results. This video brings up a few interesting finds, including a souvenir penny and a Stanley box cutter blade. It is a reminder that you never quite know what you will turn up while out beachcombing. The session wraps up with a relaxing break on the pier, enjoying an ice cream cone by the water. If you enjoyed seeing these metal detector finds, subscribe for weekly beach treasure hunting updates. Let me know in the comments what is the strangest object you have ever found while out scanning the sand? Of course, beach detecting isn't always about finding treasure. Some signals turn out to be deep, some are deceptive, some are incredibly difficult to recover — and plenty are simply rubbish! But that's the beauty of metal detecting. You never really know what is waiting beneath the next scoop of sand. And every signal has a story. From coins and copper to keys, toy cars, light fittings and some rather unexpected finds, this hunt produces a fascinating mixture of targets. I'll take you through the VDI readings, tones, target identification and recovery techniques I use along the way, as well as showing how changing beach conditions can affect your detecting. The Fylde Coast has seen generations of visitors, storms, tides and changing sands — and who knows what has been lost along these beaches over the years? This is only half way through the mission, and there are still countless beaches to explore, countless signals to investigate and hopefully a few surprises waiting beneath the sand. Because metal detecting isn't just about what you find... It's about the hunt, the history and the possibility that the next signal could change everything.
