Right away I thought it was someone who knew the couple. The couple told the killer that they had a babysitter and they knew when they’d be home.

The movie with that phrase, “Have you checked the children,” was the 1979 move, “When a Stranger Calls.” It scared me to death. I babysat once before I ever saw that movie. I was terrified the entire time. I never babysat again, especially after seeing that movie. It stills scares me to this day, and I am now in my 60s. I never heard this case before. Thanks for sharing. Love your channel.

Thank you Amy for the origin of these movies. Halloween and When a Stranger Calls comes to mind immediately. I am devastated this poor girl never got her justice. 😢

This was always one of the scariest stories told to us in the 60's. I never knew it was based on a true story. You did a great job telling this story, but then again you and Chris always do a great job. Love to you both, from the scary cat from Tennessee lol

Ok, Amy, I'm officially creeped out. This guy has "dead eyes" - looks like an empty shell of a person. I used to babysit at that same age and my Mom would call the house to check in on me until they picked me up. I didn't think twice as to why. Hopefully, this guy is in the depths of the fiery dungeon now. RIP to young Janett. Thanx for the chilling recap! Stay safe everyone.

There was another case (probably NJ) where a serial killer broke in and killed the babysitter, but the two children sleeping upstairs were miraculously ignored. The detectives think she told the killer nobody else was there in order to divert him.

I remember as a kid in class, reading out the play "Dial 'M' For Murder...I fell in love with Crime stories after that! I was also a babysitter as a young teen, and the kids were spoiled Hellions in a suburb 20-30 minutes outside Boston. THEY were the nightmare. I WISH someone called!😂😂😂
