I never fall asleep to this videos. But this is great. Schopenhauer is one of my favourite philosophers.

To date this is the most comprehensive essay on the work of Arthur Schopenhauer. Prior to this I thought of him and his brilliance as just simply the prince of pessimism allowing us to see things from a negative standpoint providing contrast, however as I fell asleep during the beginning of this essay and then subsequently woke up to listen to it again I realize that his profoundness relates to the very essence of our being or even existence itself. It's my sincerest hope that society at large can better understand his principles. MarkMannM2

Drifting off to Schopenhauer feels like letting your soul wander through the depths of existence. Heavy truths, quiet mind, deep sleep 🖤💭💤

Schopenhauer was sometimes called the curmudgeon of philosophy - well capable of making vitriolic and offending statements. He often treated his fellow humans without any regard for their feelings.

And though: when hearing about his thoughts, again and again something comes to linger in my mind that feels like - kindness! There is no notion of warmth or anything that would cause joy - just something unobtrusive that is soothing and calming without any thrill of pleasure. Something I'm grateful for.

I got on a philosophy kick a few weeks ago. Hadn't read any of this kind of material since my college days in the previous century. Just listening to this podcast is affirming that I was likely born a Pessimist and haven't really changed in 71 years. Pity it took me this long to find some confirmation of the forces that appear to have driven me my whole life.

To be precise, Schopenhauer did concede in his supplement to "the world as will and representation" that the human intellect is not capable to grasp the thing in itself as it is.. Humans merely get a glimpse of it by the experience of their drives.

Brilliant content and brilliant commentary in my opinion.
As a student and ' follower ' of Advaita Vedanta I now understand more fully why Schopenhauer said that Advaita Vedanta was the consolation of his life .
He clearly expressed non dual concepts and coming across fairly rudimentary translations of the Upanishads he could easily see that they affirmed what he had discovered himself .
The only thing I see missing from Schopenhauer compared to Advaita Vedanta is the final destination of Samadhi ( Enlightenment- Sat Cit Ananda ) seems lacking in him .
Schopenhauer was so enraptured by the Upanishads that he called all his dogs ' Atman ' - the upanishadic name for the inner Self that is identical with Brahman ( God ).
Associated with this you might wish to do 3 hours of Sri Ramana Maharshi who was the living embodiment of the Upanishads . 🙏🕉️
