  If anyone is planning to use these &quot;privacy codes&quot; for those extra channels, learn what that means first. It doesn&apos;t mean other people can&apos;t hear you, it means you won&apos;t hear other people.<br><br>It&apos;s so you don&apos;t have to hear other people&apos;s conversations on your channel, but people who listen on that channel without a code enabled will hear everything on that channel, including you.

  I think an underrated spec for the radios is that some can take standard alkaline batteries as well as their rechargeable batteries. In some situations, camping and emergencies, being able to grab a pack of regular batteries is important. That&apos;s why I like the Motorola radios.

  50 years ago I had private business band radios on my farm, most of my communication was under 15 miles, but could reach well over 50 in open ground. I had a base and 5 mobiles, and over $3500 invested, plus license and renewal fees. Motorola made the best radio at the time, I wish either of the 2 Motorola walkie talkies were available back then, could have bough a new pickup for the difference. Thanks Todd, very impressive.

  The PXTON is a Baofeng 888. &nbsp;It is not legally an FRS radio. It is a full band UHF radio. What does that mean: First , it has a cdetachable antenna, which is larger and works way better than a fixed one for range. It can also be swapped with a better anteenna. And it has also more power than it is legally allowed, also good for range. BUT you need to purchase the special cable to program all its features.<br>HAM operator here. <br>Great channel.
