Just had a Champion 5500W inverter dual fuel delivered. Gonna unbox it tomorrow with my boy n fire it up. Glad to see it on your list of To Buys, planning on using mine as back-up to my power station if the typhoons last a few days n solar input is down. Should be fine, even a Pinto will go 200,000 miles if ya change the oil😅

Our local Mobile Vet depends on portable power for their service. They "bought the best" and that was advertised as Honda's large inverter generator. The last time I saw them, they had a Predator inverter generator providing power and I asked them about it. They told me the Honda broke down under warranty so many times they bought the Predator as a backup. Each failure meant a canceled event and though warranty paid for the repairs, the lost business wasn't tolerable. When they got their Honda back, it waited for the Predator to go down and was still waiting. They said they would never buy Honda again. It's likely the reason I see more Predator generators running outdoor trade show events than any other brand. WE ARE IN TEXAS and have exceeded 120 days of triple digit temps. (over 100°f) Predator is the best buy in my observation.

I bought the Harbor Freight 3500 inverter series and had no issues with it for about 6 years. I used it to power my travel trailer and it ran the air conditioner with no problem. But when it did get very hot last summer about 95 degrees, I think I overloaded it and it caught on fire. Part of that was probably my fault but I still went ahead and bought another one because it had worked fine for the prior 6 years. I cannot justify the price difference between them and a Honda generator which is three times more expensive

I bought a Generac 5500 watt generator in 2012. I only used it a handful of times for more than a day or two and it always started easy. I had it all set to go five years ago with a fresh oil change and ran all the gasoline out of it and have stored it in that condition ever since. Four years ago I bought a Generac 22kw Guardian unit for the whole house and its been a Godsend. Its been running for the last 8 days straight with a fresh oil change and air filter today. My old 5500 watt Generac I gave to a neighbor, GAVE to this neighbor and his 97 yr old mother and it still starts after the second pull and has been running their home for 7 days straight. God Bless them! No idea when power will be restored after this terrible Derecho typhoon in Indiana last week.

Bought a Troy Bilt 5500 portable in 2004 when every hurricane seemed to home in on my house. Put around 100-ish hours on it since. B&S engine. Synthetic oils only, non-ethanol gas only, run carb dry on shut down. Stored covered in garage. Pull it out before every hurricane season and run about half a gallon of gas through it, making sure the generator is powering up. After 22 years, still started on 1-2 pulls. The only "repair" I've done is replace the leaky pneumatic wheels with solid wheels.

Interesting I was unaware of the overheating problem with Predator. I see a lot of these generators on the back of service and utility trucks. We have one of these generators from Harbor Freight at a off grid airfield. It runs for hours a day in over 100° weather. I don't know if anybody even changes the oil. At a bottle and can recycling center that operates out of a steel storage container I've stopped in there many times and asked the man how does that generator run inside that steel box with just the doors open? It's well over a hundred degrees inside that steel box with the generator running in the summer. He told me it runs 8 hours a day 7 days a week and he always changes the oil on Sundays. I don't know if I believe this or not.
