  I have great respect for Arshad Sahib and quality and integrity of his discussions.<br>I have subscribed and receive notifications.<br><br>In this discussion the comments by Adeel sb, in reference to Kalash people&apos;s religion made me ponder and contrary to his assertion I found the following reference, &nbsp;which unfortunately weakens the conversation. <br><br>I share as pure academics and not as polemics. <br><br>I believe that these discussions lead to dissemination and exchanges of sound and valid knowledge. <br><br>...<br><br>Do the Kalash follow Greek religion and traditions?<br> Kalash people do not follow Greek religion or traditions, nor are they genetically descended from ancient Greeks. While a popular local legend claims they are descendants of Alexander the Great’s army, extensive DNA testing has debunked this theory, proving they are an indigenous Indo-Aryan population.<br><br>Key elements of Kalash culture and belief:<br><br>Actual Religious Roots<br>Rather than Greek paganism, the Kalash practice a unique, ancient religion that is a blend of:<br>• Animism: Worshipping spirits tied to nature, mountains, and rivers.<br>• Ancestor Worship: Honoring the spirits of their forefathers.<br>• Pre-Vedic Hinduism: Their pantheon and rituals share deep roots with ancient Indo-Aryan and pre-Vedic mythology, rather than Hellenistic traditions.<br><br>The &quot;Zeus&quot; Misconception<br>A common misconception arises because the supreme creator deity of the Kalash is named Dezau (or Diizaw). Because the name sounds vaguely like the Greek god Zeus, early European travelers tried to link the two. However, linguists and historians note that any broad similarities between Kalash and ancient Greek myths stem from their shared Proto-Indo-European origins thousands of years ago, not from direct Greek influence.<br><br>Traditions and Culture<br>Kalash traditions are distinct to the Hindu Kush region. They are famous for:<br>• Vibrant Festivals: Seasonal celebrations like Chillum Jooshi (spring) and Chowmos (winter) featuring communal dancing, music, and wine-making.<br>• Distinct Attire: Kalash women wear heavily embroidered black robes (piran) and elaborate cowrie-shell headpieces (shushut), which are entirely unique to their culture.<br>• Social Norms: Unlike some neighboring communities, Kalash women possess significant social freedoms, including the right to choose their partners and initiate divorce.<br><br>Their closest cultural and historical relatives were the Nuristani people of Afghanistan, who practiced a nearly identical religion before their forced conversion to Islam in the late 19th century.
