If Zeus was really afraid of his descendants overthrowing him, then he should've kept it in his pants.

The evils didn't really corrupt Zeus, it amplified what was already there.

Zeus wouldn't have needed to be afraid if he had just removed Kratos's memories. If his had kept his promise from the first game then the other games wouldn't have happened. He did it to himself.

In the first God of War novelization Zeus refused to rid Kratos of his nightmares, citing the fact that no one would ever forget his patricide, just as they would never forget that Kratos had killed his family. Athena sincerely wanted to free him from his madness, but Zeus refused, arguing that Kratos simply needed to work through his traumas.

The funny thing is, the mythical Zeus had a similar problem: he knew his father was paranoid of the same thing and then he suddenly gets a prophecy (in certain myths from Prometheus) that a son of his own will overthrow his rulership. Ofc irl its not kratos as he is one of the four gods Zeus rides with into battle, but it is an interesting comparison. It is also interesting to note that in many later metaphysical tellings, Zeus himself is even described as the god of everything's personal or proxy avatar in a sense: in the Orphic hymns he is portrayed as omnipotent after fusing with phanes and becoming one with all of the previous kings of reality, in later Roman contexts he and all the other gods came from sol invictus who was the sun, and the sun in astrology is linked to consciousness as a concept, which is where all other forms and ideas emanate from. Aristotle even famously stated in lambda chapter 7 that the prime mover (god) has the perfect life, the perfect everything, because it NEEDS to be necessity of its function as the blueprint where all others come from. Zeus on EVERY sense of the word, IS god. Hell even the name Zeus is cognate with the word for god "Deus" of Roman origin. The guy quite literally is the stand in of the supreme being (monad, sol invictus, phanes, whoever you wanna call him. Hell call him Yahweh if you want to given they're both the same archetypal storm god despite him being Equated to Saturn and not Jupiter) and he STILL lost to paranoia.

To be fair to Zeus, fear of his own offspring coming back to kill him is both justified and not easy to act on, thanks to just how many bastards he sired. Which brings us to mistake 0 - failure to keep it in his toga.

For a character so determined to remain in charge, zeus didnt actually seem to care about any of his rule or structure. It was pure ego, not even a smidgeon of external pride in his work.

15:40 To be fair, Kratos was only critically injured because of his own boasting and arrogance. He was too busy saying how great he was and didn't notice the ENORMOUS STATUE HAND just casually drifting down to crush him.

Zeus was probably rubbing his hands like Birdman watching it happen, thinking it divine providence that both of his sons were such braggarts that they launched into a whole monologue before the universe served them some humble pie. I noticed it became a trend with Kratos: talk s#it, get hit. Well, weakened or stabbed and thrown into Tartarus.

As a side note: we all know that OG Kratos was just too angry to die. He was fueled by pure spite at this point. 😂

Regarding your problem with Pandora's box: it can work if you assume that the evil of Fear sealed into Pandora's Box was Zeus's own fear, the one which lead to the start of the war against the titans to begin with. This doesn't mean that he expunged all vice from himself when the box was sealed, but the worst excesses of his fear may have been contained after the war, allowing him to act just a little more rationally until Kratos opened it again.
