If you want to take the Medieval Way out of the screen and into your own home, that is what the store is for. The bread, the preserving, the garden, and the old ways of running a house, all written out properly: https://medievalway.store/

We still do lots of this at our place. Wood is our only heat source - but we load the stoves and fireplace (either end of the house) with wood and there are coals in the AM because of the stoves we use. Still brine our pig in the fall, and have the root cellar filled with carrots and potatoes. Wife still hangs garlic and onions, but we can most everything else. Our bees (and maple syrop) provide all our sugar (and then some) and we render the wax for candles. We have electricity in a part of the house, but the older part we still use a lantern or candles because it's nice. Especially in the winter. Love this channel.

The bug life, I had grocery store white FLOUR, with 2 oxygen eaters (yeah there is a fire issue didnt know about either), there was way more bug life on opening, than my stomach could take, since it wasent the end of the earth, I was quite willing to make it part of the rot pile. There is many ways to remove when its in a bag, so follow directions to protect your purchases.

Except for crop failure years, winter was the time of relative plenty. Crops were in, the pig butchered and preserved and the winter crops in the ground. Summer was the lean/starving time if foods had run out -- crops in the ground, but harvest months ahead. On whole grain storage, today.wheat berries can be stored in air-tight containers with oxygen absorbers to keep critters from coming forth. The same applies to dried peas and beans.

Such useful stuff, & can we just respect that those folks had forgotten more about basic survival in the world than most of us will learn?
Heard about folks honey-storing cooked meats during times when salt was unavailable (at the quantities needed for curing... so rough financial times).
Wonder if you've heard of the same? 🤔
