Btw, did you notice that some stadiums were massively smaller, like for 15-20k fans? These are usually 2nd, 3rd and even 4th division clubs and there is still such an atmosphere at many traditional clubs that have been around for 100+ years.

Those are police with riot gear, not security.

Keep in mind that most european professional sports teams are not just entertainments ventures like in the US, but evolved from amateur clubs that are deeply engrained into the local communities.
To move a team to another city just because the team owners get better conditions elsewhere, like the Raiders move from Oakland to Vegas, or the Dodgers from Brooklyn to LA, would not go well in Europe.
The fans would go berserk and the team would loose their complete fanbase.
The best example is FC Wimbledon in England, wich lost almost all after their moved to Milton Keynes.

The riot police you saw in the tunnel when the Europe section started is there to handle what happen when different teams fans tend to "mingle"

Yeah, you'll not see any mingling between the fans, plus where you see empty sections of the stands, that's the buffer zone to prevent fights from breaking out, also in some cases you'll not see fans from the opposing teams, this'll be because they were not allowed in as it is too dangerous to do so.

In Europe, football is not just a sport, not a family program. In Europe, football is a way of life, a tradition that is passed down from father to son.
You can change your wife, your politics, your religion, but you can never, never change your favorite football team.
It's that simple.

European fans see themselves as an additional team member who is responsible for the mental and emotional state neccessary to win a game. In German, they literally talk about "the twelfth man", meaning the live audience. The fans take this responsibility very seriously, just like a team member. The "aggression" is the same as a player, and should be in the spirit of sportsmanship, not violent.

“I live 3 hours from the stadium”. European fans travel the world with their teams 😉
Those ‘guards’ are the police.

In Europe, the stadium is basically divided into 3 parts.
1 away fans. They can buy their tickets at their own club, they mostly arrive by special trains or metro, and they get to the stadium with police security. Specifically, they are escorted by riot police, which partly protects the local supporters from a more aggressive away fan, and partly the guests from the local supporters. The number of tickets the guests can buy is regulated by the local association, they are given a separate sector, sectors.
2 home fans, possibly neutral spectators. Usually on the two longitudinal edges of the pitch.
3 The local hard core, you can also call them ultras. Depending on the size of the group, the home club provides them with a place, usually on the short side behind a goal, although for larger support groups this is of course larger. They are the ones who usually cheer the whole match, and of course the so-called disorder is mainly associated with them.

At least in Hungary this is the custom. But no one would ever try to, say, sit in a green and white jersey in the Ujpest stadium and blend in with the ULTRA CORPS, just as no one would enter the FRADI HOOLIGANS sector, the infamous B CENTER, in purple and white. No matter how many riot police there may be in the player's exit. and no matter how many security guards there are in sight, such a fool is unlikely to be worth the initial cheer, because he will literally be lynched. It is not customary to blend in here, because anyone who is not a supporter of your team is a supporter of the rival, and is not a fun spectator, but a concrete enemy.

The fan camps are united by the "Us, against others" mentality, which gives the feeling of community, the spirit of belonging somewhere. And it should not be underestimated that a lot of passion, possibly aggression, can be released when the herd spirit is triggered. Probably more people have died in fan clashes than in stadium collapses, although the most famous such case (Hersey Stadium) was a fight when part of the stand collapsed.
But players have also been shot because of a lost match, and it is not uncommon for clashes between ultras when the two camps meet at a location far from the stadium and fight.

There is no mingling of fans from the two teams, you also have to realise that fans travel to away games in numbers so they have to be separated or there would be a riot
