  The West has a huge blind spot when it comes to China. They can't deny China's massive success, but they also can't bring themselves to admit that Beijing's political and economic model is outperforming their so-called 'free-market democracy.' The truth is, Western dominance was never built on democratic values or free trade, it was built on gunpowder, plunder, and conquest. What's more, China is using America's exact playbook: massive state-led infrastructure like Roosevelt's New Deal, and global development funding via the Belt and Road Initiative like a peacetime Marshall Plan for the Global South. Ideological bias blinds Western elites to the reality that Beijing is achieving success using the very strategies pioneered by the US.

  As an Asian, I have never understood why non-Western hosts on these types of talk shows—even down to their tone of voice—act more like &quot;true&quot; Westerners than the guests from the West do.

  An average Australian here. If the views expressed by the lady professor in green reflect our western views about China, then we are doomed—and there’s little doubt that China will take the lead.

  That British woman’s account of the first 30 years following the founding of the PRC is totally wrong, reflecting the standard western narrative. When the Republic was first established, the nation had just endured 8 years of war against Japan and 3 years of civil war. The KMT regime retreated to Taiwan island with entire national treasury, leaving behind nothing but ruins; at the time, the mainland was poorer than many African nations. Although the new CPC government did make some mistakes on economic and political policies, the suffering endured by the people was primarily due to the wars and plunder of colonial powers. Furthermore, due to the &quot;original sin&quot; of being a &quot;communist state,&quot; China faced embargoes and blockades imposed by the West from day one. <br><br>Yet, China achieved tremendous success during those first thirty years: it established an independent industrial system and made significant strides in infrastructure, education, healthcare, and women&apos;s rights. Without the industrial foundation and human capital built during those decades, China’s subsequent economic takeoff would have been impossible. Consider the example of India: in the 1960s, the two countries were at comparable levels of economic development. India joined the WTO earlier than China and never faced deliberate suppression from the West, yet to this day, it has not established a comprehensive industrial system.<br> <br>Also, Japan, South Korea, and Taiwan developed largely with the permission and support of the United States; and have their allocated roles politically and economically. China&apos;s path of development is very different from theirs.
