We Thought We Knew Philadelphia… Were We Wrong?

After thousands of miles travelling across the States, we finally made it to Philadelphia, Pennsylvania and this time we decided to let your recommendations guide us. Our first stop had to be Angelo's Pizzeria for our first proper Philly cheesesteak, loaded with Cooper Sharp and onions. After seeing just how many of you told us to go there, expectations were VERY high. But the cheesesteak was only the beginning........ We tried John's Water Ice, explored Reading Terminal Market, picked up the famous roast pork sandwich from DiNic's, tried Beiler's maple bacon donut and apple fritter, and even found time for an ice cream from Bassetts for Elana. David also couldn't walk past the Grand Lodge of Pennsylvania without taking a wee look! What surprised us most wasn't just the food. Coming from Britain, we'd arrived in Philadelphia with an idea in our heads of what the city would be like. Actually walking its streets, visiting its markets and trying the places recommended by locals gave us a very different experience. So did Philadelphia live up to everything we'd heard about it?
