Turkey poults hatch after a 28-day incubation period. They spend their first 8 weeks in a fragile starter phase requiring high-protein feed and warmth. They learn to fly short distances by week two, roost in trees or farm roosts by week three, and transition into juveniles with adult-like traits by 6 weeks. The dry heat requirement takes a lot of floor space with additional room for well spaced waterers and feeders otherwise the poults cluster together and die... For the first 6 weeks of life, turkey poults need about 1.5 to 2.5 square feet of floor space per bird inside a brooder. Because turkeys grow rapidly, starting with roughly 1.5 square feet in week one should expand to at least 2 to 2.5 square feet per poult by week six to prevent crowding, trampling, and health issues...

Buying another 240 acres while heavily indebted farms were collapsing shows how powerful keeping costs low and avoiding unnecessary debt can be.

“He fixed things before they broke. “
There are three (3) levels of maintenance:
(1) Preventive maintenance
(2) Corrective maintenance, and
(3) Restorative maintenance.

As an example, think of a leaky roof. Preventive maintenance examines the roof periodically. As it approaches its life expectancy, it is reroofed. BEFORE IT LEAKS.
Corrective maintenance replaces a roof when it starts to leak.
Restorative maintenance waits until the leaks are creating further damage and rotted wood.
Preventive maintenance is the least expensive. Plus, it maintains property value, AND the productive capabilities of the property, machinery, etc to do the jobs they were bought to do.

Wow! That’s an amazing quantity of turkeys to take responsibility for. 8600 runts… from three strains of broad breasted bronze🤨… which were slow to put on weight. So, she changed the ground… and the feed😂🎉🎉🎉
