"Losing my religion" is Southern slang for "losing my temper" or "losing my civility", which was the meaning the song was trying to convey, even though the story of a dude at a Catholic college playing it during finals week is pretty funny.

Shoutout to the guy at my catholic college who was walking across campus blasting this song during finals week. You have great taste in music and a top-notch sense of humor.

This is one of my all time favorite songs. I was 8 years old when it came out and it has followed me through my life. I love everything about this song, the unique sound of the mandolin, the haintong violins and panicked drums, the pleading and damning lyrics, the sweet end chord. Its a complete masterpiece in my heart.

"I think I thought I saw you try" is genius. Well, the entire song is obviously, but that part takes it to the next level.
