  The "best effort" he'd seen in a long time.   Bird credits Mike Cooper of the Lakers as one of the Best defenders he played against.

  Larry wasn't drinking the beer that night however he was known to go to bars the night before game even get into a fight or two and still come back and cook people the next day

  The best defenders in<br>the 80’s was Cooper ,<br>Rodman , Jordan and<br>the “ glove “ . Didn’t<br>Matter , Bird torched <br>them all ! They will<br>even tell you that !

  The reason why Bird told the opposing player what he was going to do, was to make it harder for him to do it. &nbsp;Very often during a game, he was bored. &nbsp;He had to give away some of his advantage to interest him enough in a play to execute the play. &nbsp;The side benefit was the opposition knew they couldn&apos;t do anything about it when Bird wanted to make a play.

  Here&apos;s the thing about Sean Kemp. &nbsp; After a game where Kemp guarded Bird aggressively, Larry told him that it was the best effort he&apos;d seen from a defender all year. Then later he sent him a letter praising his defense again and inviting him to the All-Star game for a workout. As far as the best defender Bird faced, he always gave props to Michael Cooper.

  Larry Bird felt that black basketball players were the best and most athletic. &nbsp; Bird wanted to play against the best! &nbsp;So when they put a white player on him he felt they were disrespecting him and his game.

  As far as Kemp he told him it was the best effort he had seen in a long time. As far as defense goes he has said many times that Coop on the Lakers was one of the best defenses he has ever had. Salley has been quoted saying Rodman could guard anyone and the only one he had problems guarding was named Larry Bird and he would give him the business.... which explains some of the ridiculous statements Rodman has said about LB lol
