For thirty years, Abraham Lincoln carried something he could not name and
could not put down. The men who knew him best saw it every day. History,
for a long time, chose not to. We made this not to diagnose him, but to
sit with him — and to say plainly that the sadness was never the opposite
of his greatness.

If someone in your own life carried a weight the world never noticed, we'd
be honored if you told us about them here.

And if any part of this story felt close to home: please know that help
exists, and that reaching for it is exactly what Lincoln's friends did for
him in that room in 1841.

One of the best history videos I've watched in a long time. The writing was powerful without feeling sensational, and it left me thinking long after it ended.

I’m 71 and thought I knew this part of Lincoln’s life fairly well. I did not know how much Joshua Speed mattered during that winter. A sad, beautifully paced episode.

I’ve watched a lot of Lincoln documentaries over the years, but this one found a quieter angle. The room above Speed’s store felt more revealing than another speech at Gettysburg. Well done.

THAT! is why I've always loved about Lincoln a man like me, suffering from the same thing I do. The melencholy/depression he suffered from, that so few talked about, make him more like me. He is just a great man - not just for the lawyering, not for being a wonderful dad, and being a great President but because he got up every morning to move into the day. ALL of it because he chose to walk the other path. I UNDERSTAND HIM! Abe was just a great man because I understand him.

I've said this before -- you are a great story teller! Further, you have a beautiful speaking voice!

It was a very sad and touching biography. Lincoln was a great president, a decent human being, a loving father, a caring husband..yet he alone suffered so much loss from a very young age and continued on to his children..then his own life. He lived a melancholy life. We will always remember such great man who did such great thing for his country and his citizens. May he RIP.
Beautiful narration of Lincoln's life. Thank you for posting.

Well made, but I wish there had been more room for Mary Todd’s perspective in the later part. Lincoln’s private pain matters, of course, but the people living beside it had their own burden too.
