  Went to a restaurant fir my birthday, had signs on every table that said “we pay a livable wage, therefore food prices are higher, tipping IS NOT expected but appreciated” have been back multiple times

  As a European, I hate tipping. Visiting the US was really annoying as tips were expected but not included in the price... And even worse, it's just a way to exploit the staff. Plus, the poor staff are bending over backwards to earn this measly tip. It's humiliating for them.

  I think the funniest part of this is it&apos;s for a Japanese restaurant. We don&apos;t have tips here in Japan, it&apos;s considered rude.

  When I was 19 I was at a particular coffee place, and did not realize it was even customary to tip baristas. I had someone in line shame me, &quot;if you can&apos;t afford to tip, maybe you can&apos;t afford the coffee.&quot; ... I&apos;m 35 and have never gotten a coffee since. Thank you random stranger, you&apos;ve inadvertently saved me SO much money 😂

  tipping should be viewed as a generous act of kindness not a donation that would seem rude or immoral not to do

  im a waitress in norway. tipping is completely optional. its very kind when my customers tip, but they know im paid a livable wage. i dont rely on peoples kindness, i rely on a written contract between me and my boss.
