I lowkey love a lot of Uther/Merlin interactions bc he’s like “this is an idiot, but he is my son’s idiot and they’re both rather fond of each other”. Plus, I think he knows Merlin truly cares about Arthur

Out of context, this just seems like a complicated, but ultimately endearing father-in-law relationship development

"you're Gauis' boy?" Don't know why but this line of dialogue is really really sweet

The only time I thank Uther is when he brought Merlin into Arthur's life (by making him as his son's manservant).

Its actually quite warming how Uther recognises Merlins loyalty and shows gratitude to him on more than one occasion

6:23 ‘merlin?’ This is the most respect hes ever shown him, Merlin’s literally being accused of sorcery but he’s still almost asking him to for his side or asking permission to search his chambers

I think one of the greatest feats of this show was making Merlin, the main character, actually feel like a peasant. There have been tons of medieval pieces of media with lowborn main characters that have the usual maincharacteritis, but merlin actually felt like he belonged to his class, which served well to immerse us in the story.

Uther made Merlin Arthur's servant for saving him with magic, all be it not knowing at the time, but when he finally finds out about Merlin's magic, he tries to kill him and throws his gratitude down the drain. This is truly a prime example of how much this level of hatred can corrupt and destroy someone.
