If Hollywood made a movie about they would change it to have an American soldier in the hero role. They are still doing it today, just check out Argo, where the Canadian heros were written out

Canadians have been taught not to start fights, but to end them

A few years before he passed, he went to the Netherlands to be honored for his efforts in the war. His family said that was the first time they ever heard about what he did over there. When asked why he never told anyone, he said it was because he didnt think anyone would believe him. ❤ 🇨🇦

A Canadian badass for sure. The people of the Netherlands have always shown Canadians much love, and we love them right back. They send us tulips every year !

Leo Major died on Oct 12th, 2008 in a hospital in Longueil, Quebec with his family by his side. Dignitaries from the Netherlands plus the Mayor of Zwolle attended his funeral. He did not die homeless as stated in the comments

He was invited to return after a Dutch historian tracked him down, and they knew he was still alive.<br>The Dutch children are taught about the war in school they take care of War graves as a solemn duty.

I'm a Canadian who contacted my government to create a day of respect for Sir William Stephenson, THE Canadian spymaster during WW2, who did more than most people will ever know to stop Hitler. I was told Canada doesn't put one soldier above the rest. All are given the same respect. I was a bit disappointed, but then I realized this is what sets Canada apart from many other nations. All the men and women serving deserve respect for choosing to put themselves in danger, period.
