Being european one thing baffles me regarding amercian car culture: Car is being seen as a freedom symbol - you can go anywhere, any time. But it ends up with car being a necessity, that shackles you to it. I always thought that in US everyone drives everywhere out of laziness, but what shocked me was learning that you simply cannot go anywhere without car, since walkong infrastructure is bad/non existing.

The person at my company with the highest income drives an old rusty Ford Focus. The rocker panels are literally falling off the car. It's inspiring.

THIS! I talked my cousin out of financing a newer car just cause she wanted a touch screen radio (Her 09 Camry XLE runs and rides flawlessly) and installed an aftermarket one that gave her interior the look she wanted. I made her a deal that if she bought it, I’d install it for her.

I almost bought a new car recently. The salesman was really pressuring me to sign, so I asked him "what's the rush?" and he deadass told me "I've got targets to hit". At least he made the decision easy for me! 😂👋🚶♂️

Cars can often rob you of financial stability by having constant unexpected expenses which can drain the bank account, especially poor quality ones.

As a car enthusiast I completely 100% agree with you here. I view cars as more than just a transportation, I viewed them as a hobby and lifestyle. But I still liked to know that I can maintain my cars for long periods of time without hurting my financials.

New cars and used cars are good AS LONG AS you choose the RIGHT CAR and of course if you need them for your daily activities. If you don't need 'em and only use 'em every now and then, might as well rent one for the holidays.

Here are a few tips when buying cars, new and old:
- It's always good for you to search for a car SLOWLY and not in a hurry. Good deals come when you least expect it.
- CALCULATE and NEGOTIATE the deal and don't do the deal right there on the spot. You're buying a car, not a T-Shirt.
- DON'T buy a recently released brand new car, as dealers often put markups on it to justify for the wait time for another new car to get to dealer lot.
- RESEARCH the car you're buying. Sometimes there are reasons why each trim in a car's lineup has some significant price jump, like for example a Camry LE has a non-acoustic glass and less sound deadening unlike the Camry XLE. Another example would be a Chevrolet Silverado with the 2.7 Turbomax is more recommended than the 5.3 and 6.2 V8 because the V8s had some issues with the cylinder deactivation module. Perfect segue to also check on Facebook groups, forums and consumer reports for real life owner reviews for said cars.
- Buy the car you NEED accordingly. I have a short commute, lived in an apartment and currently can only own one car; so it needs to be functional for almost every purpose. An EV would be fine for commute, but I didn't have a place to charge it at home, so I bought a hybrid instead because that means I don't have to worry about charging and I can take it anywhere without having to extensively prepare my routes.
- Lastly, TEST DRIVE all of the cars that are on your short list. See how you'd like it on the inside, outside and on the move. What looks good on the specification sheets does not mean it's good when you're driving it in real life.

All in all, take your time to research, calculate and choose the car you need.

I used to own multiple performance VW and BMW. I love cars.
Something happened with my life. I lost my job, lost my savings, lost my cars, being in debt for a long while. A friend offered me an old corolla. I accepted it.
now life is just about to get better. Found a new job, started making money, cleared my debts.
I have been considering getting another BMW, but this video stopped me from doing that. Yeah I have a life. There are many things out there bigger than a car.
Thank you.

I'm currently paying off my car at an aggressive rate. While the normal payment is just over $400, I've been paying $2k a month to pay it off early. I'll be completely debt-free in June.
