  4 years college, 4 years medical school, 2 years intern, 2 years residency. The expertise in human anatomy needed to know that a RPG-7 is not good thing to take to the chest is truly remarkable.

  <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EMA68_5CT-Y&amp;t=41">0:41</a> the guy on the right is Adam Knowles. on November 13th, 2023, he survived an rpg exploding while he was holding it. the video is on Ballistic High-speed&apos;s channel but as you can imagine, it&apos;s a pretty horrific watch. the fact he survived is absolutely insane, almost more so than Scott of Kentucky Ballistics having his 50 cal explode

  Those waterjet injuries are the most horrifying because the pressure needs somewhere to go and tends to separate skin and muscle from the bone.

  It&apos;s been a hot minute since the last time I did a battlefield medicine class, but the algorithm we were taught was MARCH: Massive hemorrhage, Airway, Respiration, Circulation, Hypothermia/Head injury. The idea was, we&apos;d work our way down the list in order of priority, only moving onto the next step when the one above it wouldn&apos;t kill them. <br><br>Something like 80% of all battlefield deaths that aren&apos;t the result of immediately fatal trauma are the result of bleeding, usually as a result of arterial trauma. We were taught to lock that down as quickly as possible, before worrying about anything else. Once the arterial spray is no longer painting the room, secure the airway. We weren&apos;t allowed anything more invasive than a nasopharyngeal airway, but that was usually enough. The rest is pretty self explanatory. Make sure they&apos;re breathing, that their clothes aren&apos;t cutting off circulation, and that they stay warm. That last one is more important than one might think. Even a pretty basic injury can cause a body to lose heat quickly, especially if they go into shock. You wouldn&apos;t think hypothermia would be an option in 130­°F weather, but it absolutely is. <br><br>Most of these injuries, we&apos;d get to massive hemorrhage and give up. No point in putting a tourniquet on a leg when the head is off in the next zip code.
