This is very useful, even if we have played cello for while. We often forget these basic rules and sometimes don't understand what is going so wrong. I have a friend who says that the way we touch the cello with the left thumb on the neck should be like holding a strawberry; you want to touch it but not to squeeze it. I always remember that because of this comparison. Thanks for this video, surely is very helpful!

Extremely helpful for a very new beginner, and trombone teacher seeking to refresh teaching techniques! I am picking up cello because it is a similar voice, and the most ergonomic string instrument for my hands. Cross training benefits people like me stuck in patterns and obligations.

Thanks for the tips, but I myself have difficulty on finger 2 and 3. Let’s say to play D maj scale, after E, I prefer to press the 3rd finger on F sharp then follow by 4th finger on G, without putting down my second finger. The same when I go backwards from high register notes to the lower one. The 2nd and 3rd fingers are hard to separate.
