  People slag off Aldi & Lidl for being "cheap." But they pay the highest base hourly rates in the UK supermarket sector & really high rates to their managers too.

  I’m an Aldi stan. They donate such a large portion of their food to food pantries and do so without promoting that they do, which I respect. I also love the quality of their products and their return policy is just unbeatable! They treat their employees well and pay good livable wages in the US which is so rare for grocery stores here and I just love being able to support that in a business

  The thing is you dont go in to Aldi for brand names you go in for cheap version of names brands making the packaging look similar is to make it easier for the customer to identify what the product could be

  I&apos;m German, and I&apos;m old enough to remember when the first Aldi opened in Cologne. My mother dragged me there when it first opened. It must have been around 1972–74.<br><br>In the beginning, people liked Aldi because the no-brand products it sold were often produced in the same factories as the branded originals. So, after a brand had finished its production run at a factory, the factory might sell essentially the same product to other buyers. Aldi initially sold that stuff in very plain, non-descript packaging.<br><br>Then it learned about product design.<br><br>So there you have it. It&apos;s no surprise that the stuff tastes the same. Aldi simply doesn&apos;t spend anywhere near as much money on marketing. And it isn&apos;t quite so greedy.

  No clue if it&apos;s true but in Germany it&apos;s kind of an open secret that discounters produce their own brands in the same factories as their counterparts
