Joe Louis was his hero and Marciano didn't want to fight him but he had to. They say Marciano cried after he beat Louis. He also helped Louis financially later in Louis' life.

I'm 70 years old, and when I was about 8 or 9 years old, we got two sets of boxing gloves that had Rocky Marciano's autograph on them. <br>Two sets because there were three of us boys. <br>Let's just say they got put to good use! 🤣

What a great sportsman...he never trash-talked and was very respectful and complimentary of his opponents. A class act and a true gentleman. That one fight, when that fighter couldn't get up, he came over to make sure he was OK. You don't see that much today.

I remember the news of his plane crashing. I was only 9 at the time but my dad was a big boxing fan and he was a real fan of Rocky.
