The Mrs and I moved to Nanaimo 3 years back from White Rock, really enjoying the clean ocean swims ,awesome hiking .Only regret is not moving here years ago .

Just a correction - it’s not a 12 hr drive from Vic to port hardy. More like 5 1/2 to 6. Nanaimo to Tofino about 3. Nanaimo to PortAlberni is a little over an hour.

I'm 66, born in Victoria, raised in Port Renfrew and Duncan, lived in Pt. Alberni, Naniamo, Victoria, Mill Bay, and Campbell River, and have wanted to move back from Southern Ontario for about 10 years. Just can NOT afford the island anymore ... to many outsiders have kicked the cost of living and the price of housing way out of the hands of the average guy.

I moved to Nanaimo about 16 years ago and if I'd seen your crime statistics I would have been scared away....it's just common sense to avoid sketchy areas of any town

I moved to Nanaimo, it’s great, has so much going for it.<br>Three separate ferry terminals, it’s in center of island, there do many places to hiking within 5 minutes from town.<br> Has four different seaplane connections.<br> Fishing is awesome, camping is very easy to get too.<br> Nanaimo has one of the best campsites in the world it’s called LIVINGFOREST!<br> Housing, apartment, condo many.<br> Great aqua centre, just recently complete $10 million dollar sports field.<br> Bottom line u can’t beat what Nanaimo offers on Vancouver island.
