It all comes down to shot placement

In 1974 my issued thirty-eight saved my life in a gunfight, including one reload w/a speedloader, w/three armed robbery suspects. Retirement EDC is a light J Frame thirty-eight.

FYI ,there's a guy on ebay that makes a speedloader that holds and protects loaded 9mm moonclips and fit in a standard speedloader pouch and deploy extremely fast..If you carry a 9mm snub it's the best way I've seen to carry and deploy your moonclips

Moon clips can be a PITA but once you get used to loading & unloading them it all comes together. I have carried a 9mm snubby for years along with two spare moon clips in a belt pouch (15 rounds total). The "trick" is to buy yourself excellent moon clips like "TK Moonclips" and if you need help loading and unloading the clips they make special loaders for that and they're reasonably cheap.
Mostly though I like .357's, the 9mm revolver was just in case they outlaw 9mm semis.

After my hand ✋️ surgery, I can only get 15-20 rounds through my mothers snub nosed Smith and Wesson special 38. Before I'm back to the 22.

That being said, I'm spot on with the 38. I stick to it.

only reason to go for the 9mm revolver is if you have access to free or cheap 9mm ammo

I've had 9 mm and I've have 38 specials to me the 38 Special always had a place in my heart and always will and I really never cared much for the 9mm wear 9mm zip through the target a 38 special normally dumped all of its energy into the target but that was with LED round nose not copper plated great video God bless you and everyone out there

Real world results do not confirm your conclusions.

Exaggerated information, which is not accurate, 38 special has proof more than adequate, also reloading is rare in civil self defense episodes.

.38 Special is more versatile for those that reload their own cartridges as a revolver's nature is The Little Mikey of LIFE cereal as it'll eat anything that will fit into it.
9mm is the fast paced modern workhorse where sending out a wall of Lead could help solve a "problem" that may, or may not, have existed.
Life is a choice of options as it's nice to have BOTH for perceived situational use(s) = argument settled.

.38 SP has a heavier bullet and wadcutters are available. Far superior to 9mm, for revolvers. The bullet diameter’s are the same.
