What’s really disappointing is if they are faking it, it brings up a point they have said in their own videos. Faking disorders and faking having disorders makes it harder for those who have DID to come forward, at the risk of not being believed or seen as wanting attention.

since we're all here talking about DID - a friendly reminder for everyone that Trisha Paytas PRETENDED TO HAVE DID AND SWITCH ON CAMERA for attention and then got miraculously cured of it after she got bored with the subject. people somehow keep forgetting about this.

it’s okay to not have DID. it’s okay to have OC lore. it’s okay to have a “boring” mental illness or nothing at all (how i dream of being neurotypical). i had dissociation (to a very minor extent) before i went on SSRIs (the dissociation came from severe anxiety and a traumatic incident). shit happens. sometimes it isn’t something labeled “cool” online. sometimes your brain’s just a little strange but that’s okay

Being 'diagnosed' with DID in 2-5 hours is crazy. What if only one alter is out and they hide it or don't switch. They 100% would show their NHS paperwork if they had it.

The fact her "life" is exactly like the book should be all anyone needs to realise something isn't quite right here

I'm not a professional at all, but I'm taking a psych class rn and my professor told us day 1 "If you're diagnosed within the first visit, seriously seek a second opinion because that's not very convincing." That's advice I can get behind, but even without it, I'd still think that within 2-5 hours is so crazy. I'm embarrassed I used to watch them lol.

I think that instead of DID larping, folks should do this cute exercise I heard of. Basically, you imagine that there multiple characters living in your head together, each represents a set of your personality traits. These characters react differently to situations and have relationships with each other (example: a cold unfriendly persona is protective of the soft sensetive one). This can be quite fun and you may even share this online - self-expression, roleplay perhaps. Maybe even turn this stuff into actual fictional characters, make art featuring your personality, literally. And no shitty mockery of a real condition required.

On a positive note, hearing that Multiplicity&Me healed and fully integrated made me sob. As someone with DID that is the goal for me and all the others (prefer this term to alters). Each of us are missing out on massive parts of our life because of the separation and it is truly miserable.

FYI to those who don't have DID; A little in a system is still living in an adult's brain. Completely capable of working a job and carrying out an adult life. DID is a very hidden disorder so to accuse someone of faking because of these alters being able to carry out a normal life is not okay.

Another thing to add, this whole thing with people who supposedly have DID becoming influencers is so unlikely. I can barely get the rest of us to write in a journal, much less talk to a camera. We are all so insanely traumatized and distrustful and that's AFTER half a life of therapy and healing. All our spotify pl.aylists were made months or years apart. New ones randomly pop up. Majority of the others stay away from social media entirely and would be APPALLED at the idea of exposing our DID. Our host is the only one that has ever really posted and our diagnosis is never brought up. Just content about personal interests.

I do really appreciate your approach with alleged malingering online. Instead of accusing everything of being fake, you do try to put yourself in the shoes of the alleged malingerer to see their side and try to advocate for them not faking a diagnosis. Breath of fresh air when it comes to this topic.

the fact that their fanbase has shipping in it like it’s 2014 tumblr is worrying in of itself. this is a disorder, not a fandom

i had a therapist who specialized in DID tell me that she believed i had it. she met at least two alters as far as im aware, and even after that she didn’t want to diagnose me with it yet because of how complex it is. she’s no longer my therapist but i had always assumed, especially after meeting her, that a DID diagnosis could potentially take years. hell, my autism diagnosis took months to get. how someone could be diagnosed with something as severe and complex as DID in 2-5 hours is beyond me.
