Im a CPB, certified medical biller certified through the AAPC. Coding is a hard job to get into. When you take your CPC you will be given a CPC-a. Its hard to get a job with the a ,showing that you are an apprentice. But its not impossible. My advice as a lead biller, I started out in the call center, took my billing and coding class then got transferred to billing and then promoted to lead. It took me about 2 years to get where I am. Anyone wanting to get into healthcare should go to the hospital in the area and take a job, any job in the hospital, then take your schooling, get the hospital to pay for it, then transfer to the department youre getting educated for. And.. always keep learning. Healthcare is constantly changing, especially billing and coding

Before getting into medical coding, please know this is a very competitive field and very expensive. You have yearly dues and books that you have to pay for. (if your company does not pay for or reimburse for) You must meet your CEU's or you could lose your certification. I've been looking for over three months for a job and a lot of places require that you have 2-3 years of coding experience. I have experience in Insurance and Healthcare and passed my CPC exam. If anyone decides to go this route, please make sure you do your homework because it's not as easy to get into as one may think.
