I did my research as well as I possibly could for this video, but I'm not a lawyer, just a music producer. Consider this as a fact-checking thread for anything I might have gotten wrong, and I'll do my best to add a disclaimer. Comment away!

As a writer of sound and lyrics...I don't feel like I own them. Everything in my head came from some other musicians...It's ephemeral..... we're ultimately trying to "proprietarily own a sequence of vibrations and words" learn a famous song....now you're King Midas. I'm a big fan of stealing ideas if you can make them your own. It's the Jazz Way. I know you can't copyright harmonic progressions... eventually we'll run out of melodies too. Might take a theoretical eon. Thanks for the breakdown. Great French pronunciation and great singing too ❤

I cannot thank you enough for this information, your sence of humor, and just how straightforward your pacing of the delivery was. It’s an art form and you got it down !
I’m so excited to go and hear your cover 😀

On my separate music channel, I uploaded like five songs and one day, all acoustic covers in my own style. Within 24 hours, I had a copyright claim on four out of five of them. The only one that didn’t copyright claimed was a song by yes. I don’t know how all this works, and I can tell that YouTube did not promote my videos at all, they still only have like four or five views apiece. Except for the one that did not get copyright claimed. Overall, I’m glad that it’s not as scary as it used to be, the worst thing it appears that will happen is that you just won’t get promoted or if you do, get a lot of views then you have to share money with the original owner.

We got hit pretty hard for covers. We had to remove them all except for one luckily 😬

Thanks for all the info, especially your sense of humor it was VERY much welcomed.

I unfortunately got declined with a cover upload due to it being a "derivative" and began my search of "what the hell is all this mubo jumbo".

Thankfully your video and a few others helped clarify this. Especially the bit at 10:13 , super insightful and a good rule of thumb to go by.

Thank you for this! I'm not a music creator, but I wanted to know if someone could hum or sing a song casually in videos without making trouble for themselves. Your video gives me a little understanding.
