Many of us in what’s called “Latin America” and the Caribbean share this same history of coming from crypto-Jewish ancestors, and many have made a return to Judaism because of this. This part of Jewish history needs to be told over and over again. Thank you for sharing this 🙏🏽

My professor in college was Catholic but she would often use Jewish words in the classroom. When I asked her about where she learned the words she said her grandmother used them all the time.

I’m a descendent of conversos too. I’m from the northeast of Brazil and have lived in the US for a long time now. I keep wishing to see more interviews like this. It was hard for me to find my place in the Jewish world after finding out. It made so much sense and I immediately realized I wanted to live as a Jew. It’s been a journey! Can’t wait to watch this ❤

"Anusim" in Hebrew means forced/raped and it describes Jews who were forced to convert to another religion Christianity or Islam.

Thank you Reyna, I am a convert too, and even so my father was Jewish and I have Jewish family (not yet religious), I feel how you say kind of an orphan: no parents/ grandpatents/ cousins, I am a grandmother already, this feeling stays.
I can second your recommendation for whoever helps a convert during converdion, continue being present, or make sure that there are ppl present that assist the convert individual and his/ her family.
It is very imoortant.
The same is true for Chozer beTshuva, they are in a very similair situation.
S. F. from RBS A
