  I really like this guest. As a nurse I can say you occasionally get a doc like this and they're a joy to work with. They are down to earth and enjoy and appreciate being part of a team with the rest of us.

  My kids mom tried to be anti-vax. I was not on board, and our pediatrician said "If it were me, i would rather risk my child get sick because i was trying to protect them, rather than them get very sick with something i could have easily prevented". That hit her like a ton of bricks and she folded almost right away.

  Dr. Mike is a good interviewer.  His questions are concise.  The viewer doesn’t have to suffer from him just wanting to talk about himself.  Dr. Beachgem is equally informed and concise in their responses.  Thank you for this interview.

  As a medical coder, I appreciate you bringing up the ICD codes for diagnosis coding. My favorite is the different codes depending on if you were bit by an alligator or a crocodile

  I’m a new mother. I live in SC. There is currently an outbreak of measles here. 2 weeks ago at my son’s two month appointment, his pediatrician said “Mrs. I know you’ve made up your mind but I really want to provide some additional education on vaccinations”. My eyes widened and I said “made up my mind for what? He’s getting vaccinated period”. His pediatrician made the biggest sigh and said “Oh thank God. I don’t know why the nurse charted against it but we’ll get them prepped”. The pediatrician came back in and asked if I had relayed any information that I was potentially against vaccination. I vehemently denied this. They stated the nurse had stated she “assumed since he had yet to have his shots, the parent was against them”. I was so shook. I am 26 years old and for this nurse to just make an assumption without asking me, it bothered me terribly. He ended up getting his shots and I have not seen that nurse since we have been back for 1 follow up. I just can’t help but imagine if I was uneducated or had my doctor just went with the flow… Especially, during my postpartum period when forgetfulness and confusion is a given. My baby would be at risk. I’m so grateful for the healthcare professionals that speak up - The ones who ask questions and double check. The ones who take the time to educate even though it often falls on deaf ears. It is so important.<br><br><b>EDIT/UPDATE</b> <br>My son went back to the pediatrician for his 4 month follow (including secondary vaccination dosages). I asked about the nurse who my initial comment referenced. The on-site phlebotomist notified me that they let her go. I told her I felt extremely bad and felt guilty. Even though she made what I assume was a mistake, I didn’t want her to lose her livelihood. Shockingly, the phlebotomist informed that the incident with my son was the 5th instance of “vaccination refusal” that was “incorrectly” charted by this specific nurse. The practice had to release her after 2 of the 5 children (infants) effected had missed the window for their first immunizations. Solely because the nurse charted refusals and the parents had assumed their vaccinations would be presented at the right time. Like me, they were new parents and were not well informed so they trusted the healthcare professionals. Obviously, I am not privy to certain information like age, names, etc. due to HIPPA but the phlebotomist made it clear that I was not the only parent, and it appeared to be intentional misinformation charted by the nurse. I found the revelation so disturbing that I wanted to update my comment.

  My pediatricians office for my son has a list of social media accounts that are reputable for information and I recognized Dr Beachgem immediately! So grateful for what she does!

  Love to see Dr Beachgem making an appearance here. Not only is she authentic, she is knowledgeable &amp; has that pediatrician-type of accessibility where you just know she&apos;s talked to - but not down at - many non-doc parents.

  my mom was antivax and i never got the whooping cough vaccine, i never caught it till i was 17 and caught it at my highschool graduation, it was absolutely the worst and i thought i was going to legitimately die. Anti-vax and lack of medical literacy dosent just affect to little kids but teens/young adults pretty badly
