I see new growth everywhere . I see how the landscape has changed not for the better and not for the worst, just changed. A third of the town got hit real bad. I love your dachshund, we had two over the years. Right or wrong Karen (our first) chased a herd of Mountian goats out of the parking lot at Miette Hot Springs one night. She didn’t think they belonged there🙂. She was absolutely fearless and so loveable. Jasper is a special place.

They are eating road salt. Your excitement is contagious especially at the end with the bull

Thank you for sharing this beautiful little love letter to Jasper! As a lifelong Albertan, I've been going there since I was very little. I've hiked and ran all over the trails, camped in the woods, breathed the mountain air. It is such a special place! My husband proposed to me at Old Fort Point, a hill just up from the townsite. Two weeks later, the fire came through Jasper and completely upended the landscape. I think it hit a lot of Albertans, and travellers who love Jasper from around the world, really hard. Seeing it regrow and come back to life has been wonderful, and there is a lot of beauty to be found in the fire scar.

October/November is one of the best times to visit in my opinion - you two have great taste! All of the beauty with none of the crowds. Congrats on your bull moose sighting as well - that's a pretty lucky find! Hope you come back to visit again someday!

Albertan here. It’s hard to explain how utterly devastating the Jasper fire was to so many Albertans. If you look up our Premier (Danielle Smith) and her first address to the province as the fire was happening, she can hardly get through the press conference. Those feelings reflected our hearts as a province. We love our mountains and when one town is devastated in this province, we all are. This is our new reality with global warming, we have fire season now, something unheard of thirty years ago. The off season is the best time to come to the Rockies. The forest becomes quite beautiful a few years after a fire, especially during wildflower season. Maligne (pronounced mahleen) Canyon was closed due to damage from the fire. The drive between Lake Louise and Jasper is beyond stunning - it’s known as one of the best drives in the world. Those were mountain sheep not goats 😊. They were licking salt off the road. Goats are really white and not usually seen on roads - I’ve seen more mountain goats on Going to the Sun road in Montana than anywhere else -they hang out pretty high up in the mountains. How fantastic to see all of the animals that you saw, especially the moose!! So glad you had a nice place to stay in Jasper. Air BnBs are not as common in Jasper, sorry that you had issues but glad it ended well. Canmore is really the best spot for Air BNBs in the Alberta Rockies, you will be spoiled for choice there. Banff and Jasper have hotels more than Air BnBs as you guys have discovered. Haida (pronounced Hydah). So glad you made it to Jasper, it’s still so beautiful. Jasper National Park - it’s confusing as so many parks in the US are ‘National Forest’. Those meals looked yum! That Jasper bear has been their mascot for at least 50 years. And that bull elk!! To hear his call at the end there! 😮😍

A wonderful video of you discovering Jasper at the start of winter. Happy for you to get some views of some wildlife that can be elusive for many. The contrast between the burned areas and the untouched sections evoke some emotions, for sure. Safe Travels!
