Every Ethernet Cable Explained: Cat5e to Cat8 and What You Actually Need

Your gigabit internet is stuck near 94 Mbps? Don’t buy Cat8 yet. That number may be pointing to a slower port, a damaged wire pair, a bad connector, or a problem hidden in the cable itself. In this video, you’ll learn how to read Ethernet cable labels and decide whether to keep the cable, replace one cord, or plan a real network upgrade. 🔧 What You’ll Learn: ✅ How to diagnose a 94 Mbps result before buying a faster cable ✅ Why a 100 Mbps port can bottleneck your entire connection ✅ How to use an A/B test to identify a bad cable path ✅ Cat5 vs Cat5e: when an old cable is still usable ✅ Why Cat5e remains a reliable gigabit baseline ✅ Why Cat6 is the practical default for most new home-network patch cables ✅ When Cat6A makes sense for full-distance 10-gigabit wiring ✅ Why Cat7 is a verify-first purchase rather than an automatic upgrade ✅ Why Cat8 is designed for specialized 25- and 40-gigabit links, not ordinary home networks ✅ What flat cable shape actually tells you ✅ Why CCA cable can create resistance, heat, and PoE problems ✅ How AWG works, and why 23 AWG is thicker than 28 AWG ✅ U/UTP vs F/UTP vs S/FTP shielding ✅ What CM, CMR, and CMP mean for cable routing in the United States ✅ How to choose between Keep, Replace, and Plan the Wiring By the end, you’ll have a simple cable audit you can use before spending money on Cat7, Cat8, or an unnecessary wiring upgrade. ⏱️ Timestamps: 00:00 – Stuck at 94 Mbps?
