According to the film's novelization, The Walking Man is revealed to be a divorced alcoholic who had abused his child. Although he was undergoing treatment for his addiction and tried to act decently toward The Boy, he ultimately succumbed to his impulses and failed The Test.

So, in essence, the Boy has the potential to become the Lost Man if he grows up without a father, and the Lost Man has the potential to become the Walking Man if he chooses to abandon his son, and his son would become the Boy. They're not literally the same person, but metaphorically they are an extension of the loop.

This game is basically your first experience being stuck and lost at Shinjuku station. If you ever visit Tokyo try navigating it on your own without guides, apps or help.

Also even though 迷う男 (mayou otoko) can literally mean "lost man" it can also mean "hesitating man" which explains him not being able to make up his mind and his gf always asking what they're gonna do.

I noticed that the Walking Man was very general when talking about what he saw: Posters, doors… The young dude looked at the details and therefore you know that he’s got a chance to get out.

there were a few times during the movie where an anomaly was clearly happening and the character(s) just stood there and watched to see what would happen, instead of immediately saying "that's an anomaly" and turning around to leave. that was literally the only place in the movie where i was like, c'mon man. the rest of the reactions were spot on to me. also, i don't know if you noticed during the end when the lost man is staring directly into the camera, you can see the light of a door opening and then closing reflected in his eyes. he's seeing the loop from the other end.

The movie makes me wonder how the teenager got there and if she was release from her walking duty once the walking man goes through the false exit. Plus it was interesting to see that the guy becoming the walking man was recent for the kid but not for our main protagonist.

The part that got me stuck for a bit was when our first mc met the boy. He saw the boy and thought he was an anomaly. The only thing the boy had to go on was MC called him an anomaly and possibly was a real person. But there is no contradiction because they both thought they were anomalies, went backwards and saw the Zero confirming neither one of them was an anomaly.

When the movie ended I immediately thought they were setting up a sequel that would tie into “Platform 8”. Would be awesome if they actually make that film (both games are great). It’s amazing that we are getting two “Backrooms” inspired movies within the same number of months.

i think exit 8 is the best game to movie adaption
not only dose is it adapt the game so well it adds anomalies from the game that players will recognise but also adds it own to not be a carbon copy while having them adding to the story while also not being overly complicated to people who may have not heard of the game

This "living hell" motif isn't just tied to Japanese culture. Every modern day culture experiences this feeling. Working 5 days a week for 8+ hours a day only to have a few hours left to yourself after a 2 hour daily commute isn't much of a life to have for anyone no matter what country you're from.

Idk if people have noticed this small detail, but near the end when the main character escapes "Exit 8" And goes to the vending machine to get a water, The poster of the bunny and cat behind him, go from smiley to frowney. So maybe he's actually stuck in a loop and can't go back? Or it's maybe just there to mess with us.
