※ This video is an excerpt from Architectural Exploration: Houses - A House Built in Love with the Forest , which aired on September 30, 2025. We introduce the heartbreaking story of a man who lost his entire fortune and developed social phobia due to a fire and a series of scams in a deep mountain valley in Chuncheon, as well as the miraculous space of healing he found there. Mr. Jung Sung-pil, a furniture carpenter who was thriving running a 70-pyeong workshop in the heart of Seoul, lost his workplace and his beloved dog in an instant in a fire that occurred on his birthday. To make matters worse, he was also scammed out of his security deposit by his landlord, causing him to completely lose faith in people. With his wounded heart, he hid away in the mountains where no one else was around. There, relying solely on a single book on basic architecture, he taught himself and personally built his own small cabin and woodworking workshop in the forest. In that place where he fled to escape people, it was none other than 'nature' that saved him. The large zelkova tree, which was left intact rather than cut down when the house was built, has now become a reliable sanctuary that listens to the innermost thoughts he cannot even confide in his wife. Displaying his exceptional sense as a furniture carpenter, he brought in floorboards from a school gymnasium to lay the flooring, and designed a perfect healing space where the sound of cool valley water pours in when the door is opened. Watch the video now to see his amazing forest life, where he completed his own "Walden Cabin" by healing the deep sense of betrayal he suffered from people through the gentle creatures of the forest—such as deer and squirrels—and the sounds of the valley. The reasons people enter the forest are all different. To find comfort, to breathe, to live. Here are those who have sought out the forest to build the homes they want to live in. From a man who built a workshop house to find comfort in the forest and do the work he loves there, to a couple who fell in love with the trees and sold their city villa to go all-in on a forest house. Through these forest houses, which go beyond mere backdrops to become sources of inspiration and comforting embraces, we explore another path that architecture should take in the era of climate crisis. ▶ Watch Full Version : https://www.ebs.co.kr/ ▶ If you want to read the EBS documentary as an article, https://egloos.com/ebsyoutube ✔ Program Name : Architectural Exploration: House - A House Built in Love with the Forest ✔ Broadcast Date : 2025.09.30 #GolaDuneDocumentary #Documentary #Documentary #ArchitecturalExplorationHouse #ChuncheonCabin #DIYHouseBuilding #FurnitureCarpenter #HouseInTheForest
