Sagan might have been a fine poet—except for the fact that the true poet’s allegiance must be to universal Truth, self evident and available to all, and sadly his allegiance was divided, and wedded by that to betrayal. Sadly Sagan was ambitious, and so eventually was captured by and became the puppet of the Security State, and inevitably a liar! He projected an image of a Patriot and a Poet, but unfortunately for him the First Principle of the American Republic is “all men are created equal,” and that was a place his ambition and his ego’s desire to be an Insider would not let him go.
Sagan placed himself between the narrow, limited, and essentially materialistic box of Science (the philosophy of Scientific Naturalism), and a Higher Vision which may well be limited but brings a man to a confrontation with his Self which might bring him to another confrontation—a confrontation with what lies beyond the limits of man’s finite mind!
Yes, a man might attempt to serve two masters, but one will eventually prevail. And sadly Sagan while trying to serve both, chose the wrong one. And here are the results:
Knowing the inherent limits of Scientific Naturalism, he hid those limits from, and therefore lied to, the People—weakening instead of strengthening the entire nation!
And yet he might have done the opposite . Being a trained scientist and also having read the Classical And modern teachers of Wisdom, speaking and writing with the very language he had inherited from the writers of the ancient Classics, he chose to harm the world by making fun of and thereby diminishing both those wise men and their incredible contribution. Nor did he leave out his innocent neighbors who he reduced to mere tools and objects of ridicule to strengthen, fallaciously, his intention which was to make war upon and murder, if possible, those who gave us not the merely calculative mind, but the Higher Mind the purpose of which is to cultivate knowledge of “the right way to live” (Wisdom) and how to follow that Way. Thus he made himself a small, petty, and dangerous little man—“an expense of spirit in a waste of shame,” and did everything he could to eradicate Wisdom from the the curriculum, and if possible completely from the mind of his good Neighbors. And a more devilish vocation I can not imagine—on his own authority to prevent his Neighbors access to those Sacred Wisdom Traditions that have been with us since early men evoked the Gods with images of those creatures that gave them Life on the walls of caves illuminated by a small fire.
Jay Warren Clark
