I did react to Godzilla Minus One, but Toho kept blocking it even at 24 minutes so I gave up. Here is one of my earlier edits that you can watch on Patreon https://www.patreon.com/posts/106371313

"I won't see a third bomb dropped on the country of my grandmother, who lived through it."

Fun Fact: According to sources close to the production, Godzilla's design in this film is mostly based on his design from the original film from 1954, and is intended to appear very frightening.

Hot Take Fact: Director Hideaki Anno told the actors to speak faster than usual so that they would resemble actual politicians and bureaucrats, citing The Social Network (2010) as a reference and warning he would cut the take if they spoke too slowly.

Lost In Translation Fact: For Satomi Ishihara, who plays a Japanese-American diplomat, the hardest part of her performance was learning English. She found out she was playing an American after being cast, and was shocked by the amount of the English dialogue she had to speak when she read the script.

I remember going to see this in theaters. That plasma breath attack was so wild to see on the big screen.

Also, an interesting tidbit about Goji's final design, the skin pattern, was meant to emulate keloid scars that would appear on the bodies of people after nuclear/atomic attacks. Toho was going all in on Goji was representing. The firey breath before his beam attack also seems to represent the fire bombings that were done to Japan leading up to the attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki.

Godzilla is definitely tragic in this. His theme is 'Who Will Know?', which is basically his thoughts. He's in absolute agony, has no idea what's happening to him, and is just desperate for help.

Godzilla isn’t even a monster in this one. He doesn’t even know what he is and all he knows is that he’s in pain, being attacked, and lost. Like a baby animal trying to find its mother while also figuring out itself and the world around it. Every roar he makes in this film is him in agony and pain, he is losing blood quickly while also regenerating. The pain he’s experiencing is like a baby being forced to grow into an adult hours after it’s born. All those changes are what’s making him destroy and rely on his instincts to survive all his mutations and the attacks forced upon him. Shin Godzilla is the most horrific monster that could’ve been made, but also the most saddest knowing he never meant any harm

Every anti-Godzilla military plan should be called 'Operation: P*ss Him Off.'

"has godzilla ever done anything like that before?"

Godzilla jumped into a volcano, swimmed into the MANTLE OF THE EARTH and then came out of another volcano as a mean of fast travel... Godzilla its fucking nuts.

I love how you appreciate japanese humor in this movie, it tends to blow past people XD
Its not often we see movies with so much drama between humans, like others said, I love seeing how complex the humans are with their relationships, hierarchies and government/chain of command and how they struggle to solve a problem.

I love how visceral this movie is. Godzilla's evolving and mutating every second he was on screen was amazing to me and a completely new take to see it happen, not hear it from exposition. I like the whole situation being handled like one would try to handle a natural disaster, not a supernatural force out of this world. And the entire scene with Godzilla trying his beam attack for the first time is a masterpiece to me: the sound design, the music choice, the visuals - gorgeous 🔥🔥🔥 I wish they make more movies in this "style" for other monsters!

Whats kind of depressing and sad is that each roar Shin makes is a scream of agony

The short answer: beams coming out of his back and tail are unique to this iteration of the Big G.
