When people say there's no cuisine of the United States that's an insult to the people you're bringing to light...
Food of the US is not hamburgers, chicken wings, and frozen pizza... it's this... food adapted from the roots of their original cultures...
combined and created into something new and original...
Thank you for continuing to educate 💙

My mama side is Geechie. They all ate their greens, cabbage and cornbread with their fingers. With neckbones, corn beef and any other meat they prepared the greens with.

Pot liquor and cornbread and hoe cakes and grits; this is what I remember growing up. Keep the history coming, thanks 🙏🏽🩷😎

In the Caribbean instead of the cornbread, we got coucou. We also kept remnants of our ancestors as well.

As a white guy who grew up in the deep South, I just want to say that your videos are amazing. It's deeply fascinating for me to learn real history from a different perspective, especially when it's juxtaposed against something I assume to be true for the simple reason that I've never had exposure to it. Your format of meticulously going over the actual facts while also tying them in with this societal realities and pressures of Black Americans of the time adds much needed context to a lot of these stories and gives real weight and meaning to them.

This channel is going a long way to fill in the staggeringly incomplete facts or outright falsehoods I was taught in school. Even with the best intent, the education on the history of enslaved peoples focused more on how sad miserable it was, but hardly ever on the knowledge they brought with them.

You should have a show on PBS. This is so insightful, sincere, and fascinating. I’m sharing this with all my teacher relatives. We need to educate all the children this history.

I read a long time ago that okra was brought over by slaves. It came over in the hair of a woman that was doing an okra hair treatment , by some seeds on her hair when she was captured. And was planted after she landed. Turns okra is not only tasty but a good hair conditioner. ❤️
