This commentator got the importance of the Seville correct. Its "Crisp & Clean" styling was a major design milestone, influencing the appearance of numerous cars throughout the 1980s.

I worked at a Lincoln-Mercury dealership in 1977. To be fair, the Versailles was a much-upgraded version of the Granada. It was heavily reinforced and bolted down.

I loved that 1970’s Seville. Beautiful lines. One of my teachers drove a huge Cadillac coupe de ville.

I was a kid when these came out and they were a hit. I loved them I remember those Lincolns and nobody really took them seriously. They were just too obviously a Granada, which was a very nice car, but not a Lincoln. When they changed Seville to that weird trunk, they ruined a really special thing about the first Seville, they were sporty and looked luxurious and capable.

I was a teenager in the 70s. I worked for partners, one was a Cadillac guy, and one was a Lincoln guy. Both would send me on errands and give me their car keys. The Lincoln had the softest cloud like ride, but I enjoyed driving the Cadillac's better. Because Cadillac didn't feel like floating on a cloud, I felt more in control with the tighter handling.

The bustle back Cadillac in the thumbnail was one of my favorites. Lincoln and Chrysler had their versions, but Cadillac was the best.

My dad bought a Versailles, black with gray interior. We called it the mafia staff car. He owned his own company and went through cars every couple of years, mostly Chryslers, GM, and the Versailles was his only Ford. I drove it, and as a novice teen driver at the time, the rear disc brakes saved me. As mentioned, it had halogen headlights, a rarity at the time in the age of dim sealed beam headlights and powered leather seats. It was and is a pimped out Grenada. Whenever I saw any Versailles years later in a wrecker, it was picked for parts heavily. Especially the interior and rear differential.

The Cadillac had a very modern front suspension and a unique body and interior as a kid I was very impressed by the Seville , the Versailles was a Granada which was just a rebodied maverick and everyone knew it

Versailles actually used a 2 piece driveshaft with center carrier bearing.

Cadillac came out with their X body Seville in 1975 where Lincoln came out with their first Versailles in 1977, so they were not nine months apart.
